Jesse Eubanks is quite a catch. And Georgetown College is lucky to have snagged him for a performance Thursday, March 6, 7:30 p.m. This multitalented artist will bring his energy and enthusiasm for music, art and worship to Hill Chapeland all the cool kids will be there.

Eubanks, originally from Louisville, now resides in Philadelphia, serving as the worship arts director for the Port Community Church and doing free-lance writing for various magazines.

Undoubtedly, though, music has been the biggest part of his life for as long as he can remember, and he incorporates his love for music in everything he does. He has done inner-city missions in Oakland, Calif., and played drums at the predominantly black church he attended there. According to his website, "He's known for his enthusiastic performances as a live percussionist and his intimate, cutthroat lyrics as a songwriter."

Eubanks' first release for the year 2002, Meditation, Contemplation and Prayer is an album of music and intensely deep and personal poetry, written to aid worshipers in the spiritual disciplines of mediation, prayer, private worship and contemplative thought. The album takes advantage of a wide variety of musical instruments and sounds including e-bow, hand drums, drones, cello, shakers, organ and guitar effects, and also utilizes the talents of "a patchwork of musicians."

Eubanks says his biggest influences for the newest production are Prayer Chain and Monk as well as paying homage to the reverent spirit of the monastics tradition.

As a result of his musical endeavors, Eubanks has been named Artist of the Year by online music source Somewhere Cold. Aside from being an accomplished recording artist, Eubanks has also worked on the production side in graphic design and mixing roles for several other recording artists.

Though music has been one of Eubanks passions, his Christian faith is what drives him at the core. He works for the Port ministry in Philadelphia, a new church seeking to create a dynamic and uniquely urban church community. The community attempts to reach out to the young adults in urban Philadelphia. Eubanks develops the weekly worship environment, including planning unique music experiences for the congregation. He also helps develop small groups and classes. Paul L. Fife, pastor of the Port Community Church, says that Eubanks "comes to us with a wealth of talent and abilityand he has helped to make the church meetings a valuable, viable and meaningful venture. He is one of the architects of the church model that will be reaching the urban world for sometime to come."

Eubanks will also be an upcoming guest on the Da Ali G show on HBO later this month.

Jesse Eubanks will share his music, poetry and faith with the Georgetown College community Thursday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel. Don't miss this unique experience!
